Having read this book by myself, I can say that this book does not have several things that its readers might seek.
When I read its title, I expected this book to be a chronicle of a man in his spiritual search with all his queries and eureka moments - which is not the case. In this book, the man has completed his journey and tells his story to his friend -both figures being fictive and invented by the author to convey his lessons on life wisdom to the readers.
The portrayal of the 2 fictive figures throughout the book also induces ill feeling to me. John, the listening figure, is too naive about many life wisdoms which should have even been known by any layman. Julian, the monk, on the other hand is said to be a very successful litigator prior to his spiritual search too many times in this book.
Many of the life wisdoms taught in this book would have been known by any avid reader of spirituality books. I gained more enlightenment when I read Gretchen Rubin's "Project Happiness" as a comparison. Nevertheless, all the lessons in this book is still a good reminder to all who desire a satisfying and happy life.
